The Canadian International Trade Tribunal is committed to ensuring the security of everyone who attends its hearings. Accordingly, effective July 2026, commissionaires will be present at all in-person hearings.
Commissionaires will be stationed outside the hearing room and will be responsible for preventing security incidents and responding to security concerns.
Their general responsibilities in relation to hearings are as follows:
- Being present at hearings and helping to ensure the safety of hearing participants.
- Ensuring that individuals outside the hearing room keep noise to a minimum while the hearing is in session.
- Verifying that individuals entering the hearing room during breaks, when the hearing room is otherwise inaccessible, are authorized to be present.
- Ensuring that hearing participants and individuals do not enter restricted areas, such as the registry staff area.
- Enforcing restrictions on food and beverages in the hearing room.
- Ensuring that members of the public do not enter the hearing room during in camera (private) sessions.
- In dire circumstances, using force in response to a security risk or concern.
